Golf Course Update - 7/1/2007

July already?? I guess the golf course looks like it has been through some Summer stress, but it is still hard to believe that the 4th of July is right around the corner. Oh well, I am sure the calendar is correct. So far, the Summer has been warm and dry. Great conditions for playing golf - not ideal conditions for growing grass. We have already pumped a lot of water on the golf course this year. Hopefully, we will continue to get some periodic help from Mother Nature.

The golf course is in very good shape going into July. The greens, tees, and fairways are looking pretty good right now. The rough has basically gone into Summer dormancy due to the lack of moisture. We have hosted several events already this year. I have heard a lot of kind words about the golf course from both members and visitors. The maintenance staff has been and will continue to work hard to keep Fort Dodge Country Club in great condition.

The new tee boxes and renovated bunkers started last Fall are now looking very good. The bunker areas are now fully available for play and all of the new tee boxes should be open very soon.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind the membership that bug spray should not be applied while standing on the turf. Every year we find areas of damaged turf caused by golfers spraying bug spray. The bugs have not been very bad to this point, but I am sure that will change. Please try to apply your insect repellant when you are standing on hard surfaces. We have a fantastic venue here, and I hope to see more and more of our members out enjoying it.
