Wow, what a start to the year. The playing conditions have been almost perfect. I don’t ever
remember an April that I was wishing it would rain, and it was a welcome sight when it did. I’m sure that many of you noticed that we aerified greens and tees. The greens aerification went perfectly, and
the holes are almost completely healed. Now that the holes are almost grown in, and the threat of
frost looks to be minimal, we will start to turn our attention to green speed. With the threat of frost
minimized we can now spray the chemicals that reduce the growth on the greens. This will help to improve
greens speed and make them more consistent throughout the day.
Now that the golfing season is underway I would like to remind everybody to scatter when driving
carts. One of the biggest problems that we fight is the lack of areas to drive carts around greens
and tees. The concentration of traffic causes the turf to thin out, eventually leading to a bare spot.
This is why it is best to scatter when driving a cart and avoid areas that appear worn down. This is also
the reason that in the coming weeks we will begin painting halos around greens. This will help to ensure
the highest quality playing conditions around the greens. Everybody’s cooperation is greatly appreciated.
Hope to see everybody on the golf course.
