The golfing season is finally upon us. If you have not heard the golf course is Open. After a record winter
of snow which seemed to last forever, the opening date is about normal. The golf course came through
the winter in almost perfect condition. Other than a lot of snow mold in the rough, which the grass will
quickly grow through. The snow mold was the cottony looking material that most people saw in their yards
after the snow melted. In the long grass like the rough snow mold seldom kills the grass plant.
As with every spring the golf course is extremely soft, that is why it is critical that some golf etiquette rules
are followed. Remember to keep golf carts away from tees and greens, the soft ground will easily pack
and cause problems the rest of the year. This is also a good reason to minimize the number ofgolf carts
on the golf course, by riding with somebody when possible. Also remember to fix ball marks, the soft
greens will be easily marked up by shots into the green.
This is also the time of the year that we aerify the greens and tees. We will be doing this on April 19 and
20 on the greens and the 22 on tees. Although disruptive this process is vital for the long term health of
our greens.
Hope to see you on the golf course.
