Golf Course News - 1/1/2010

Winter has definitely arrived. December turned out to be the snowiest December on record and the third snowiest month ever. It sure would be nice though, to get a winter when it snows and does not rain. Once again we have ice on the golf course. I have yet to get out and determine how much ice and how much I need to worry. The abundant snow is going to make it difficult for the crew and me to get onto the golf course to trim and remove trees. Right now we are waiting for a warmer day so that the snow will be soft enough for us to get out there. Until then we have
been busy in the shop. The guys are going through each piece of equipment getting it ready for next year. So far the prognosis for our aging fleet has been good, with the discovery of no major problems – just lots of little ones.

In the coming weeks we will begin grinding reels. While doing this we will completely disassemble every cutting unit to check the bearings and seals. Once the unit is reassembled it will then be ready to be ground. The grinding process sharpens the reel so that it will be ready for a new
season.

In the meantime, hope for warmer weather and have a good new year.
