Golf Course News - 7/1/2009

Mother Nature has been a great irrigation system. It seems like every
time we needed water, Mother Nature provided – sometimes when we didn’t need it.
The ample moisture has made for a bumper crop of bugs. The signs of bug spray being
applied are all over the golf course. Two green patches (foot print outlines) of
grass surrounded by brown or bleached grass is a dead giveaway. I remind everybody
to apply insect repellent on cart paths or at the very least, out in the rough.

On another note, I would like to update everybody on the sod nursery. The
area continues to fill in at a pace that I am pleased with. Although the area looks like
any other rough, the area is extremely soft and carts need to stay out of this area.
The key to the sod nursery working is that the area remains relatively flat. If a cart
ruts up an area, that area will be ruined in terms of sod production, until it is torn up
and reseeded.

I would like to take this opportunity to recognize my crew. They are a great
bunch of guys that truly care about Fort Dodge Country Club. Without their passion
and hard work we would not be able to have the superior playing conditions that we
do. Their passion about the condition and quality of the golf course is not something
that can be taught and that’s the sign of a great employee.

As always, I hope to see you on the golf course.
