As the snow cover rapidly disappears it is hard not to get excited about spring and the upcoming golf season. Historically though, the golf course does not open until the end of March or early April. Although I am ready for the golf season, we are still busy getting everything ready. Until the golf course is open, the course is closed to any and all play. Because we maintain this course in such superior condition per the wishes of the membership, I ask your cooperation and patience.
In the shop we are still preparing equipment for the upcoming season. We are also applying a fresh coat of paint to golf course accessories. As far as work on the golf course, we are still busy working on trees while the ground remains frozen. Usually this is only for a few hours in the morning. Then the late winter sun warms the ground enough to make it muddy.
In the coming days I will be on the golf course taking samples of turf to see how it is doing. By placing the samples on the window sill we can trick the grass into thinking it is spring and can see how it faired through the winter. Although this is only a small sample of turf, it should give us a good idea of how the golf course is doing.
Hopefully next month I can report good news about the turf and opening.
