It is hard to believe, but my first month of being a superintendent is over. Wow, time
flies. I have been looking forward to the month of June, as it means I will have a full staff
and hopefully the end of coveralls. May’s unusually cold temperatures have not allowed the
golf course to heal as fast as I would like, but the warmer temperatures of June should speed
up the process. The warmer temperatures will allow the golf course to heal, but will also allow
disease to invade. We will be constantly monitoring the weather and scouting for disease
on the golf course. When needed, we will apply chemicals to prevent disease and maintain
superior playing conditions.
I would like to thank everybody for their cooperation with the halos. The areas around
the greens are certainly benefiting from the reduction in cart traffic and are beginning to fill
in and become a better playing surface. I will do my best at keeping the halos painted, but
when they are hard to see please keep your distance from the greens. As always, if there is a
cart path please use it. I would also like to thank everybody for staying out of the areas
with orange flags. By flagging the wet spots carts can be out on the golf course sooner and
less damage will be done.
The Beautification Committee has been busy planting flowers around the golf course.
Last Fall thousand of bulbs were planted between #4 tee and #8 green. This Spring they
looked great. Be sure to thank the members of the Beautification Committee for their hard
work. And a huge thank you to Ed Casady for all of the red Geraniums around the course!
