The days are certainly getting shorter, and the calendar says that Fall is here.
However, the temperatures have been above average and the trees are just beginning
to turn color. The golf course is in fantastic condition right now: a recipe for
more great experiences playing Fort Dodge Country Club. That’s right, the golf season
is far from over. We normally have the golf course open until December and
there will be a lot of nice days to play in the months ahead.
On the golf course maintenance side of things, we are very busy right now. The
frequent rain has not only made the turf healthy, but it has also kept us a little behind
in our mowing schedules. Of course, we have a very small crew this time of the year.
It takes a little longer to catch up when we get behind. I am sure that cleaning up
the leaves blanketing the ground will soon be another daily task.
Normally, this is the time of year that we start to tackle our list of projects.
Due to the long list of projects completed last year and limited resources, our list of
projects is a little smaller this year. We do have some work to do with seed and/or
sod in some bare areas. We also need to get to work on some beautification projects.
We tore out overgrown shrub and flower areas in the corners of the parking lot this
Summer. Now it’s time to go back in and finish what we started.
I think by the end of October things will have changed quite a bit. I expect that
by the end of October the leaves will be littering the ground and we will have had
some frosty mornings. So while we are blessed with this pleasant weather I encourange
you to come out and enjoy Fort Dodge Country Club.
